The I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival is one of Santa Barbara’s most iconic annual events, transforming the plaza at Old Mission Santa Barbara into a vibrant open-air gallery each Memorial Day weekend.
During the three-day festival, more than 150 artists of all ages create large-scale chalk pastel masterpieces directly on the pavement, ranging from classical religious imagery to modern and original works. Admission is free, and visitors can watch the art come to life in real time.
