The Granada Theatre has been a revered local institution in the heart of Santa Barbara for nearly a century, welcoming all manner of local and national performers to grace its stunning, Baroque-accented stage. It’s home to no fewer than eight repertory companies, and is the only theatre in the city to have an all-digital, 4K projection and sound system. The Granada specializes in large-scale musical performances, live theatre, and comedy.
The Lobero is the State of California’s oldest and longest continually operating theatre. Since first opening the doors on its breathtakingly beautiful stage in 1873, The Lobero has played host to countless notable artists, including: Jeff Bridges, Pat Metheney, The Wallflowers, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Jan and Dean, Los Lobos, Robert Cray, Marc Broussard, KT Tunstall, Judy Collins, Ladysmith Black Mambazo Taj Mahal, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Charles Lloyd.
If you’re in the mood to dance, EOS Lounge is where Santa Barbara goes to get down. As the city’s most popular nightclub, EOS hosts local, regional, and national DJs and EDM artists in its 3 bars, and dual dance floors. EOS also offers an outdoor patio, VIP bottle service and a chill, distinctly west coast vibe. Don’t miss upcoming sets by IViza, Sacha Robotti, DJ Dan + Thee-O, and Anna Moss & the Nightshades. EOS also hosts a regular comedy night.
If you like your music loud and your atmosphere upbeat, then head to Whiskey Richards. The vibe is classic dive bar, complete with cheap drinks, a welcoming atmosphere and a jukebox full of timeless hits. The live music schedule is ever-changing, and features not just local and touring bands, but also open-mic jams and instant-rockstar karaoke. Bring your sense of adventure, and be prepared to have a good time.
Locals in the know head to Soho for the absolute best in up-and-coming acts, as well as intimate sets from established artists who don’t typically play venues this grounded. The attached restaurant offers surprisingly sophisticated plates, so be sure to head out early to grab dinner with your show. Shows on the books at Soho include Slenderbodies, Bachelor, Andy Shauf, Elderbrook (w/Gilligan Moss) Fruit Bats and Southern Culture on the Skids.
The Santa Barbara Bowl is the city’s most celebrated concert venue, and for good reason. This 4,500-plus seat amphitheatre was first built into the picturesque hillside it calls home in 1936, and has hosted world-renowned artists every year since. Look for upcoming Santa Barbara Bowl concerts from John Legend, Jackson Browne, Haim, My Morning Jacket, Foreigner, Wilco, Phish and Lorde, as well as comedy from Trevor Noah, Sebastian Maniscalco and Chelsea Handler.
